We want to be beach ready but some of us may not be sure how to prepare ourselves, to peel off the layers from our winter wardrobe into our new suit. The best place to start is to make mini goals that lead to the big goal! Maybe aim to work out more than you had the first half of the semester by doing 30-45 minute cardio sessions, 4-5 times a week and strength training on the other days. We all need to take note to be training all our muscles, not just our core; we have our legs, arm, back, and chest to give attention to also!

We cannot forget our diet affects our body and our workouts as well. Add more fiber into your diet by adding more leafy greens! Say goodbye to white bread and stick to whole grain or wheat. (White Bread just has way too much sugar). It is hard for everyone to stick to a healthy diet but if we plan our meals ahead it will make it that much easier for us to obtain.

You will start feeling a sense of accomplishment over the weeks and when it is time to reward yourself don’t reward yourself with food because that is creating a bad relationship with yourself and food. Try and reward yourself with a new pair of shoes or shirt.

6 ½ Weeks to get ourselves feeling confident and ready for SUMMER!

Hit the gym, run outside, or go on a hike! Let’s get active!

Spring Break

Spring break is practically here!! Sadly the fitness center will be closed (Closing Friday March 16th at 2pm and re-opening Sunday March 25th at 2pm ) but that does not mean you can’t keep up with your workouts! There is a bunch of ways to stay fit without going to the gym:

Try taking your run outside, with this great weather we have been having there is no reason why you couldn’t have a fun run outside for a change.

You can go on a hike!

Hit up a nearby park, you can do park bench push-ups and squats.

Check out exercise T.V. or Video On Demand

Take a bike ride

Walk instead of driving

Push-ups, Crunches, Lunges, etc don’t require any equipment

Don’t let not having a gym affect your physical fitness. Get out and stay active over break! Have a fun, safe, and active break!

Pilates Starting 3/28/2012

Pilates is coming to PSU Group-X at the end of this month (3/28-5/19)!

They offer a variety of anti-stress remedies, including Reiki, Acupressure, and massages. Everything offered is free of charge to PSU students. They generally have one session per activity a week; giving you three days a week to get yourself into the Wellness Center to take advantage of this awesome program.

-Many of us don’t know what happens at a Reiki or Acupressure session.

Reiki is used for stress reduction and relaxation, while promoting healing.

It is a Japanese technique that uses an unseen “life force energy” to keep us healthy and happy! If you are curious to find out more, watch: http://youtu.be/SNuj944FtUY

Acupressure is also used to promote healing and your overall well-being. It is done using the same pressure points as acupuncture but without the needles. When the points are pressed it releases tension and helps with circulation. You can watch this video for a little more information: http://youtu.be/OoiUvhwQS7c

Check out the wellness center and stay up to date on what service they are offering, don’t let stress take over your life.

Everyone had they day off from classes! Which was awesome! Some students headed up to Cannon Mountain, where ski day took place, the mountain offered free lift tickets to all PSU students. Some students may have been skeptical about going up because of the lack of snow we are having this year but the snow at Cannon was perfect! It was a long day of ski/snowboarding but everyone who went had a lot of fun and if you missed out look out for Ski Day 2013 – Next year!

Three teams competed for the championship title. Rules were: You get hit by the ball, you are out; you catch a ball that was thrown at you, the person who threw it is out and one of your team members who are out can return to the game. The teams played three minuet rounds; the team with the most team members in at the end of the round won the match. Each team played best of 7 rounds. Sadly no ladies showed up but I don’t blame them because the guys showed no mercy as they hurled the rubber balls at the opposing team. The teams showed dedication to the game as they jumped through the air and onto the hardwood gym floors to dodge the ball. In the end the most skilled team won Championship Dodge ball t-shirts, maybe you will see the six winners around campus!

DODGEBALL TOURNAMENT!

TWO DAYS until Saturday… If you haven’t been clued in yet, we are having a DODGE BALL TOURNAMENT. It is free to all students; all you have to do is show up on time, behind the Ice arena at the Recreation Shed. If you are lucky you don’t have to get very wet but people are known for falling in while doing exercises on their board. We had a great season of classes this fall and will start up again in the spring, between April 2nd and 16th depending on the weather. We will be meeting Monday through Friday for four to six weeks around lunch time. Everyone keep a look out on the Pemi. , we might just be out there a little early, in February.
